BWB Code of Conduct

Everyone has a right to feel safe, welcome, and included in our sport. To ensure that a culture of bullying does not exist at Boxing Without Barriers, the Code of Conduct outlines the behaviour expected of all members, including procedures for addressing inappropriate behaviour.

Athlete Participation

Boxing Without Barriers is a club for everyone. A foundational tenet of our program is that everyone gets the support they need to participate in our sport. We strive to ensure that every boxer is able to participate fully and safely. This document outlines requirements for athlete participation, as well as steps taken to ensure the safety of all athletes and coaches.

A note on baseline testing:

Baseline testing is the practice of having an athlete complete certain concussion assessment tools before sport participation in order to get baseline or “pre-injury” measurements. In the event of a suspected concussion, assessment is done again and these post-injury measurements are compared to the baseline measurements. This testing is NOT recommended by the Canadian Guideline on Concussion in Sport, in favour of a “recognize & remove” model with follow-up by a qualified medical professional. Find more info. here.

We’ve taken the RCM pledge.

The Responsible Coaching Movement (RCM) is a call to action for sport organizations, parents, and coaches to enact responsible coaching across Canada — on and off the field.

What is RCM?

It includes three distinct pillars, each serving to create a sport environment that is safe, smart and secure. Boxing Without Barriers enacts and abides by all of the policies below as well as mandating SafeSport training for all lead coaches.

Ensures all interactions and communications are open, observable, and justifiable, with two responsible adults (a coach, parent, or screened volunteer) present with a participant (may be exceptions in emergency situations).

Screening includes comprehensive background and reference checks, interviews, plus police information checks, to be done at regular intervals.

Coaches are trained and have the confidence and skills needed to effectively manage challenging situations.
